Etsy’s headline fee is 6.5%, but that is only the start. A typical order also pays the $0.20 listing fee, payment processing, and, for UK shops, the 0.48% Regulatory Operating fee. Add Offsite Ads and the VAT Etsy charges on its own fees, and most sellers give up roughly 10 to 14% of an order before their own costs. This calculator stacks every fee for UK and US shops so you can see what you actually keep.
Pick your market, enter the order, and the calculator itemises each fee, the total Etsy takes, and your real payout. The processing rates are pre-filled with Etsy’s current rates for each market and stay editable if Etsy changes them.

Etsy takes more than its headline 6.5 percent transaction fee. Most orders also pay the 0.20 dollar listing fee and payment processing, plus a 0.48 percent regulatory fee for UK shops, so sellers typically keep about 86 to 90 percent before their own costs.
How to use it
- Choose your shop’s market: United Kingdom or United States.
- Enter the item price, quantity, and any shipping or gift wrap you charge the buyer.
- If the sale came from an Offsite Ad, pick the 15% or 12% rate.
- UK shops: tell the calculator whether you have given Etsy a VAT ID.
- Click “Calculate Etsy fees” to see every fee line, your total fees and what you actually receive.
Every Etsy fee explained
Listing fee
Etsy charges $0.20 USD per item when a listing is published or renewed, and again for each item sold from it. Listings last 4 months. On a low-priced item this flat fee is a bigger slice than any percentage fee, which is why cheap items are so hard to sell profitably on Etsy.
Transaction fee
6.5% of the order total: item price plus any shipping and gift wrap you charge the buyer. Because it applies to shipping too, charging postage at cost still costs you 6.5% of the postage.
Payment processing
Etsy Payments processing is currently 4% + £0.20 per order for UK shops and 3% + $0.25 for US shops. The calculator pre-fills these rates and lets you edit them if Etsy changes them.
Regulatory Operating fee
UK shops pay 0.48% of the order total (it rose from 0.32% on 22 June 2026). US shops are not charged this fee. It covers the cost of complying with local regulations in Etsy’s words, and it applies on top of the transaction fee.
Offsite Ads
If a buyer clicks an Etsy ad off Etsy and buys within 30 days, you pay 15% of the order total, or 12% if your shop has made $10,000 or more in the previous 365 days (participation is then mandatory). The fee is capped at $100 per order. For shops in GBP the cap is approximate, because Etsy sets it in USD.
VAT on fees
UK sellers without a VAT ID on file are charged 20% VAT on Etsy’s fees (transaction, regulatory, processing and Offsite Ads). If you give Etsy a VAT ID, no VAT is added and the reverse charge applies instead. VAT-registered sellers should make sure their ID is on file before anything else.
Worked example
UK shop: a £50 item with £5 shipping, no VAT ID on file. Order total £55.00. Listing fee £0.20, transaction fee £3.58, regulatory fee £0.26, processing £2.40, VAT on fees £1.29. Total fees £7.73 (14.05% of the order), payout £47.27.
US shop: a $25 item with $5 shipping. Order total $30.00. Listing fee $0.20, transaction fee $1.95, processing $1.15, no regulatory fee and no VAT on fees. Total fees $3.30 (11%), payout $26.70.
Limitations
This calculator gives estimates. It does not include the sales tax or VAT that Etsy collects from buyers and remits on your behalf, the 2.5% currency conversion fee if your shop currency differs from your payment account currency, Etsy Ads budgets, Etsy Plus or Pattern subscriptions, the one-time shop set-up fee, or shipping label costs. Your payout is before your own costs (materials, postage, packaging), so it is not your profit. Use the Profit Margin Calculator to price properly after fees.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Etsy take from a £50 sale?
For a UK shop with £5 shipping and no VAT ID on file, £7.73 of a £55 order, which is 14.05%. The headline 6.5% transaction fee is only £3.58 of that; the listing fee, processing, regulatory fee and VAT on fees make up the rest. Run your own numbers in the calculator above.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The transaction fee, payment processing, Regulatory Operating fee and Offsite Ads fee are all calculated on the order total, which includes any shipping and gift wrap you charge the buyer.
What is Etsy’s Regulatory Operating fee?
A percentage Etsy charges shops in certain countries to cover regulatory compliance costs. For UK shops it is 0.48% of the order total (increased from 0.32% on 22 June 2026). US shops do not pay it.
Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?
Only if your shop has made less than $10,000 in the previous 365 days; you can opt out in Shop Manager. Above that threshold participation is mandatory and the fee drops to 12%.
Do UK sellers pay VAT on Etsy fees?
Yes, 20% VAT is added to Etsy’s fees unless you have given Etsy a VAT ID. With a VAT ID on file no VAT is charged and the reverse charge applies instead, so VAT-registered sellers should add their ID before selling.
Why is my payout less than the calculator shows?
Your own postage and packaging costs, refunds, Etsy Ads spend, the 2.5% currency conversion fee if your currencies differ, and any outstanding fee balance all come off after the fees shown here.
